CALL OUR US SENATOR FROM NORTH CAROLINA, SENATOR KAY HAGAN AT 877-852-9462 TOLL FREE.  Tell her NO amnesty for illegal immigrants and NO Dream Act to allow illegal immigrants to get in-state tuition at state universities. The “Dream Act” is a bad dream for American students.   College is a selection process and every illegal immigrant allowed into our colleges is one less American (citizen) student allowed to enroll.  The Dream Act would then grant an amnesty to the illegal immigrant student.

Why is the Democrat Majority Whip, Dick Durban, of the US Senate pushing the Dream Act in the first place with so many American citizens out of work and such a high unemployment rate?  [Sen Hagan has earlier said she is against an amnesty but then turned around and said she was for a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.  Any "pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants" is an amnesty.]

Our other US Senator from North Carolina, Sen Richard Burr, has said he is against an amnesty for illegal immigrants.   We will follow and track his comments as well.

STATUS OF LEGISLATION AT OUR STATE LEVEL:

The North Carolina General Assembly is still working on the budget bills and the state Senate and state House are in conference (committees) to work out the details.  Our chance will come once this has been finished.  Note I said our “chance”, and we will start the pressure next week.  The NC General Assembly, our state legislature, is controlled by the majority party - the Democrats.  Their leadership has delayed most of our preferred legislation to take action in ways our state can action against illegal immigration for several years.  I believe this has been done on purpose to pander to future (now illegal immigrant) voters.

Our best chance at first will be to pass S.1258 [NC Senate bill] to prevent illegal immigrants from attending our state Community Colleges.  The NC Community College Board passed an earlier ruling which allows illegal immigrants to enroll in our state-funded Community Colleges. Only by passing a state law can we now stop this outrageously ridiculous ruling of the Community College Board. Why would the state Community College Board, with our state in reality still in a recession with nearly 11% state unemployment, concern themselves with helping illegal immigrants get trained to take American jobs?  And of course it is against the law for any business to hire an illegal immigrant, and they would have to steal someone’s identity for an ID to even try to get a job.  Again, we will start pressure on this state measure next week.

Also, there are two resolutions by the state Republicans to ask permission to introduce an Arizona-like Immigration Enforcement bill in the NC General Assembly.  The majority party in charge of our legislature, as noted are the Democrats, and their leadership has stated they will not allow such a bill to even be considered this session.
