Arizona Passes Tough Immigration Bill

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

Late Friday afternoon Arizona passed one of the toughest immigration enforcement bills in the USA.  Governor Jan Brewer signed the legislation making it official late Friday afternoon.  Wonderful!  Terrific!  While on Bill Lumaye’s WPTF talk radio show Friday in Raleigh, we discussed the details of the new legislation and how it will affect citizens in Arizona.

I would hope we can move forward in North Carolina with similar legislation, although this year is the short session of the NC General Assembly, and at this point I have been told not to expect much action except as it relates to the state budget.

Well, our state is spending over $1 billion each year on illegal immigrants and their dependents in North Carolina.  Wouldn’t this seem to be a “budget item” for our North Carolina General Assembly to explore and respond to — that assumes Gov Perdue and the Democratic leadership, who is in fact in power at the General Assembly, really want to control spending and take action in ways the state can take action to deal with illegal immigration.

Given our past, they certainly seem to have no problem spending our tax dollars on illegal immigrants and their dependents.   Of course their general comment is that there is nothing they can do.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Read about the costs to North Carolinians for illegal immigration.

We will press the NC General Assembly to take action.  More to follow.
