NC Listen-Recent NC General Assembly Immigration Meeting
Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,
The NC House Select Committee on the State’s Role in Immigration Policy held a meeting/hearing last week. I attended and two Sheriffs presented information on the 287g and Secure Communities programs they now use to help enforce immigration laws and identify illegal immigrant criminals.
It is clear to me that further actions will take place in the way of state legislation to assist with immigration enforcement. NC LISTEN has and will offer information and suggestions to state officials as to how to better accomplish this task. More to follow on the upcoming committee meetings.
I was quoted in the News & Observer concerning the committee hearing and NC LISTEN’s concerns that the State of NC continue to take action. I was quoted again today in the N&O concerning a group that wishes to install billboards to “welcome strangers” into NC — code word for illegal immigrants.
Regards,
Ron Woodard
