NC L – H.36 E-Verify bill passed key committee in NCGA

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

H.36 HAS PASSED THE JUDICIARY A COMMITTE AND NOW MOVES FORWARD FOR A VOTE ON THE NC HOUSE FLOOR.

H.36 will require E-Verify and will dramatically help prevent illegal immigrants from getting new jobs in North Carolina. Our state unemployment rate is 9.7%, so why should illegals be allowed to get jobs which belong to citizens?

H.36 was heard in the Judiciary A committee on Wednesday and I spoke in favor of it along with ALIPAC, NC Fire and Randy’s Right. About 15 of our associates also attended, and I thank them for their service to our cause. A Hispanic group and the ACLU spoke against H.36 and they said they were worried about American workers?? Does anyone believe that line. The Hispanic group, outside the hearing, suggested that I was a racist because I was promoting H.36. The American people are becoming sick of these kinds of attacks. Name-calling has become the desperate attempt of those who have no good arguments for their position, and somehow think they will frighten us. This only emboldens my resolve.

State immigration legislation **** Red Alert

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

I NEED YOUR HELP.

WE HAVE HAD SOME PRELIMINARY WINS AT THE NORTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON STATE LEGISLATION TO TAKE ACTION (in ways our State can take action) AGAINST ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, BUT NOW WE ARE BEING STALLED.

Should we allow illegal immigrants to get jobs instead of citizens when businesses win state and local government contracts? Over $200 million net of your tax dollars are going to illegal immigrants for state and local government social services.

State Legislature hearing on illegals — need help

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

I NEED YOUR HELP. Your phone calls and emails got attention and now we have the committee hearing we needed. NC House bill 36 to deny jobs to illegals will be heard this coming Wednesday (June 1) in Raleigh at the NC General Assembly Building at 16 West Jones Street, Room 1327 (Judiciary A Committee) at 10 am. We need folks to attend. If H.36 is favorably approved, it will be allowed to be voted upon by the full NC House. I will be speaking on H.36 at the committee hearing.

H.36 will prevent illegal immigrants from getting jobs when businesses win state and local government contracts, contracts funded with taxpayer dollars. Our state unemployment rate is 9.7%, so why should illegals be allowed to get new jobs funded by taxpayers?

EMAIL ME NOW IF YOU CAN ATTEND WITH ME (rwoodard@nclisten.com). THIS IS IMPORTANT. Don’t wait for someone else. I need you to help.

State immigration enforcement legislation SUCCESS

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

H.36 just passed the Government Committee of the NC House. The vote tally — in general the Republican members of the committee voted in favor and the Democrats voted against it. I spoke in favor of H.36 at the hearing. H.36 would require all businesses bidding on or winning state or local government contracts to use the E-Verify System to make sure new hires are legal residents. After all, why should businesses who take taxpayer money then go out and hire illegal immigrants? H.36 will have to pass one more commitee and then be voted upon by the legislature at large, but this is a big step forward for us. This would be our second bill to move forward and there are more to come.

Special thanks go to Rep George Cleveland, Rep Dale Folwell, and Rep Harry Warren. After legislation moves forward, we will be publishing a list of who voted for and against this legislation, and especially who sponsored and cosponsored legislation so the public knows what their members of the NC General Assembly are actually doing.

Shortly after I spoke, Marcus Brandon [Democat NC House member from Guilford County] stated that I should not have used the term “illegal immigrant” because it was disrespectful. He said I should have used the term “undocumented”. Well there are no undocumented illegal immigrants in North Carolina. The illegals have more documents than Rep Brandon……multiple Social Security cards and in some cases multiple Matricula Consular cards, etc. By the way, Rep Brandon, is it respectful or disrespectful for someone to illegally cross our U.S. border, commit identity theft for an ID, take a job belonging to a citizen, and take government benefits that should be for our legitimate needy citizens?

Update: State Immigration Enforcement Legislation

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

NC LISTEN has been working hard behind the scenes at the NC General Assembly to encourage state immigration enforcement legislation. Of course the state budget has been front and center for some time at the State Legislature, but we have immigration enforcement bills coming up for a vote in committee. More to follow on that, and we will let you know if we need your phone calls or more help. I have sent few emails during this time, but don’t confuse that with a lack of action and effort on our part. Remember what has been said before and it’s true —- illegal immigration is costing our State budget over $1.2 billion net each year. Illegal immigrants are taking over 230,000 non-agricultural jobs which belong to North Carolinians, especially jobs belonging to low-skilled citizens.

At the federal level, NC LISTEN organized and led a group of our associates to Washington, DC to meet with the Congressional delegation from North Carolina, to include our two US Senators. Our meetings were productive, but with President Obama and the U.S. Senate in control by the Democrats, I doubt any enforcement efforts wil take place. Republicans leaders in the U.S. House could be taking more of a leadership position anyway, but they are not. On the US House side concerning members of Congress from NC, we have support from all of the Republicans along with U.S. House members Shuler, McIntrye and Kissell. US Senator Burr generally supports our efforts. US Senator Hagan does get credit for voting against the Dream Act, but in general does not support our enforcement agenda.

So getting back to the matter at hand, there is a lot of work yet to do at the State Legislature in North Carolina. As many of you know, I do not send emails just to be sending emails, and often when there is activity you will get quite a few in a short period of time. But this is how things work. Please be on the lookout especially in the short term for our emails, as we may very well need your assistance to call, email, or visit members of the NC Legislature. Things are heating up. When we ask for your help, we will need it on a moments notice. I know I can count of your support.
