NC L – Immigration hearing at NC Gen Assembly —– please be there

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

This is from our friends at NC FIRE.

We were contacted by NC Sheriff Sam Page today and he was inquiring as to whether we would be attending the NC House Immigration Committee hearing on Wednesday, December 7th @ 1:00 PM in the Legislative Bldg., Rm 1228 of the General Assembly in Raleigh.

He and several others will be there and he wanted to make sure that the citizens of NC were going to back them up, and show support, by attending this meeting. He stated that it was crucial that we get as many people as possible to attend this meeting.

I assured him that we we would show up in force. PLEASE attend this meeting and bring as many people with you as you can. I can not stress how important this first meeting is and our “showing” will go a long way in showing them the citizens of NC mean business on illegal immigration.

We do not get a second chance, to make a first impression on this committee!

PLEASE REPLY TO ME AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU’RE COMING!!!!!!! IF YOU CAN’T, WE’LL GET SOMEONE ELSE BUT I NEED TO KNOW!!!!    NCFIRE@ncfire.info

I will be attending as well.

State immigration legislation **** Red Alert

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

I NEED YOUR HELP.

WE HAVE HAD SOME PRELIMINARY WINS AT THE NORTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON STATE LEGISLATION TO TAKE ACTION (in ways our State can take action) AGAINST ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, BUT NOW WE ARE BEING STALLED.

Should we allow illegal immigrants to get jobs instead of citizens when businesses win state and local government contracts? Over $200 million net of your tax dollars are going to illegal immigrants for state and local government social services.

TWO ACTIONS IN PARTICULAR NEED TO BE TAKEN NOW.

Email NC House Speaker Thom Tillis at Thom.Tillis@ncleg.net or call him at (919) 733-3451. Be respectful, but firm.

Tell Speaker Tillis that bill H.36 needs to be heard in the Judiciary A committee NOW and when favorably approved, be allowed to be voted upon by the full NC House in the next two weeks. H.36 requires any business winning taxpayer funded state or local government contracts to only hire citizens and legal residents. We have a 9.7% state unemployment rate, so why would we continue to allow illegal immigrants to acquire jobs funded by taxpayers? Speaker Tillis must take action now. [don't let them tell you to call the bill's sponsor ----- at this moment in time it is Speaker Tillis who is making the decision]

And while you are on the phone to Speaker Tillis’s office, ask him why bill H.11 to keep illegals out of our State Community Colleges and the University of North Carolina System is being held up and not even being allowed a committee hearing? [again this is Speaker Tillis's decision alone]

Email President Pro-Tempore Phil Berger of the NC Senate at Phil.Berger@ncleg.net or call him at (919) 733-5708. Be respectful but firm.

Tell Sen Berger to move now to allow bill S.205 to be heard in committee and when favorably approved, be allowed to be voted upon by the full NC Senate in the next two weeks. S.205 restricts illegal immigrants from getting non-emergency social services as federal law will allow. Our state budget is tight so if we can cut services to citizens, we can darn sure do all we can to keep social services (paid for by the taxpayers) from going to illegals. We need action, not more excuses. [don't let them tell you to call the bill's sponsor ----- at this moment in time it is State Senator Berger who is making the decision].

ALSO SEND THIS EMAIL TO YOUR FRIENDS AND ASSOCIATES.

AND PLEASE (YOU) TAKE ACTION NOW. THANKS.

Regards,

Ron Woodard

State Legislature hearing on illegals — need help

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

I NEED YOUR HELP. Your phone calls and emails got attention and now we have the committee hearing we needed. NC House bill 36 to deny jobs to illegals will be heard this coming Wednesday (June 1) in Raleigh at the NC General Assembly Building at 16 West Jones Street, Room 1327 (Judiciary A Committee) at 10 am. We need folks to attend. If H.36 is favorably approved, it will be allowed to be voted upon by the full NC House. I will be speaking on H.36 at the committee hearing.

H.36 will prevent illegal immigrants from getting jobs when businesses win state and local government contracts, contracts funded with taxpayer dollars. Our state unemployment rate is 9.7%, so why should illegals be allowed to get new jobs funded by taxpayers?

EMAIL ME NOW IF YOU CAN ATTEND WITH ME (rwoodard@nclisten.com). THIS IS IMPORTANT. Don’t wait for someone else. I need you to help.

Also the U.S. Supreme Court just confirmed last week in a ruling that States can take action to prevent illegal immigrants from getting jobs.

We need to strike while the fire is hot.

Let me hear from you. Thanks.

Ron Woodard

State immigration enforcement legislation SUCCESS

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

H.36 just passed the Government Committee of the NC House. The vote tally — in general the Republican members of the committee voted in favor and the Democrats voted against it. I spoke in favor of H.36 at the hearing. H.36 would require all businesses bidding on or winning state or local government contracts to use the E-Verify System to make sure new hires are legal residents. After all, why should businesses who take taxpayer money then go out and hire illegal immigrants? H.36 will have to pass one more commitee and then be voted upon by the legislature at large, but this is a big step forward for us. This would be our second bill to move forward and there are more to come.

Special thanks go to Rep George Cleveland, Rep Dale Folwell, and Rep Harry Warren. After legislation moves forward, we will be publishing a list of who voted for and against this legislation, and especially who sponsored and cosponsored legislation so the public knows what their members of the NC General Assembly are actually doing.

Shortly after I spoke, Marcus Brandon [Democat NC House member from Guilford County] stated that I should not have used the term “illegal immigrant” because it was disrespectful. He said I should have used the term “undocumented”. Well there are no undocumented illegal immigrants in North Carolina. The illegals have more documents than Rep Brandon……multiple Social Security cards and in some cases multiple Matricula Consular cards, etc. By the way, Rep Brandon, is it respectful or disrespectful for someone to illegally cross our U.S. border, commit identity theft for an ID, take a job belonging to a citizen, and take government benefits that should be for our legitimate needy citizens?

NC LISTEN has been working hard behind the scenes at the NC General Assembly to encourage state immigration enforcement legislation. Remember what has been said before —- illegal immigration is costing our State budget over $1.2 billion net EACH year. Illegal immigrants are taking over 230,000 non-agricultural jobs which belong to North Carolinians, especially jobs belonging to low-skilled citizens.

Please be on the lookout especially in the short term for our emails (sign up in the sidebar), as we may very well need your assistance to call, email, or visit members of the NC Legislature. When we ask for your help, we will need it on a moments notice. I know I can count of your support.

Update: State Immigration Enforcement Legislation

Concerned Citizens and Immigration Reformers,

NC LISTEN has been working hard behind the scenes at the NC General Assembly to encourage state immigration enforcement legislation. Of course the state budget has been front and center for some time at the State Legislature, but we have immigration enforcement bills coming up for a vote in committee. More to follow on that, and we will let you know if we need your phone calls or more help. I have sent few emails during this time, but don’t confuse that with a lack of action and effort on our part. Remember what has been said before and it’s true —- illegal immigration is costing our State budget over $1.2 billion net each year. Illegal immigrants are taking over 230,000 non-agricultural jobs which belong to North Carolinians, especially jobs belonging to low-skilled citizens.

At the federal level, NC LISTEN organized and led a group of our associates to Washington, DC to meet with the Congressional delegation from North Carolina, to include our two US Senators. Our meetings were productive, but with President Obama and the U.S. Senate in control by the Democrats, I doubt any enforcement efforts wil take place. Republicans leaders in the U.S. House could be taking more of a leadership position anyway, but they are not. On the US House side concerning members of Congress from NC, we have support from all of the Republicans along with U.S. House members Shuler, McIntrye and Kissell. US Senator Burr generally supports our efforts. US Senator Hagan does get credit for voting against the Dream Act, but in general does not support our enforcement agenda.

So getting back to the matter at hand, there is a lot of work yet to do at the State Legislature in North Carolina. As many of you know, I do not send emails just to be sending emails, and often when there is activity you will get quite a few in a short period of time. But this is how things work. Please be on the lookout especially in the short term for our emails, as we may very well need your assistance to call, email, or visit members of the NC Legislature. Things are heating up. When we ask for your help, we will need it on a moments notice. I know I can count of your support.

Ron Woodard
